Frequently Asked Questions:
Thank you to our partners at RepGA, a nonpartisan organization committed to recruiting, training, and developing leaders across the state of Georgia, for providing this on-the-ground information:
Why is there a runoff? No candidate received more than 50% of the vote on November 8th, so the top two candidates have advanced to a runoff election.
What will be on my ballot? The race voters across Georgia will see on their ballots is the race for U.S. Senate between Herschel Walker (R) and Sen. Raphael Warnock (D).
When is the runoff? Election Day is December 6th.
When can I vote early in person? While some counties may start earlier, in person early voting begins universally across Georgia on Monday, November 28 and ends Friday, December 2. Offices must be open from 9am-5pm on those days. Find out where and how you can vote early using the Vote Early Day voter tool.
How can I vote early by mail? All voters can request vote by mail applications up to November 28th. The board of elections will send your ballot. It must be returned by Election Day, December 6th by 7:00pm to count.
What are my options to deliver my mail ballot?
- By Mail- must have a US STAMP and must reach the board of elections office by 7pm.
- In Person- you can take your ballot to the local Board of Elections.
- Dropbox – you can drop your ballot off at a dropbox at your local Board of Elections.
Do I need to request a mail ballot specifically for the runoff? Yes – Unless you fall into a small category of senior citizens, people with disabilities, or other protected classes, you must request a mail ballot again for the runoff. You can do this until Monday, November 28.
Do you need to re-register to vote? No! If you are currently registered to vote in Georgia, you don’t need to re-register. You are automatically eligible to vote in the runoff. If you are newly registered between October 11, 2022-November 7, 2022, you can and should vote in the December 6th runoff. Visit mvp.sos.ga.gov to check your voter registration status. Because of SB202, the timeline has shortened for runoffs. November 7, 2022 was the last day to register to vote and be able to vote in the runoff.
Who is able to vote in the runoff election: Anyone who registered to vote before November 7th can vote in the runoff election. Anyone who is registered to vote in Georgia can vote in federal, state, and local runoff elections.
