*This state requires an excuse to vote by mail. Check out the information below to determine if you are eligible to vote by mail. October 25th is the deadline to request an absentee mail-in ballot. Ballots start being mailed out at different times depending on your county. Call your county election board for more specific information.

Certain municipalities throughout the state may have runoff elections. Please check with your local county elections administrator for more information.

Absentee Voting Criteria

You may vote by absentee ballot in Texas if:

  • You are 65 years or older.
  • You have a disability.
  • You will be out of the county on Election Day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance.
  • You are expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day.
  • You are confined in jail, but otherwise eligible, or certified for participation in the address confidentiality program.
